About Dengue Test (NS1, IgG, IgM)

During dengue season, this panel is often the first thing your doctor asks for once fever crosses two or three days. It checks for NS1 antigen, which shows up early in the infection, alongside IgM and IgG antibodies that your body builds in response.

Testing all three together matters because NS1 is most reliable in the first five days of fever, while IgM and IgG become more useful slightly later. Running them as one panel means you are less likely to get a false negative simply because you tested on the wrong day.

Given how quickly dengue can turn serious, especially with falling platelets, we prioritise same day reporting on this test so your doctor can decide on hospitalisation or home monitoring without delay.

How to Prepare

  • No fasting required. Dengue tests can be taken at any time of day.
  • Note the day your fever started. This is the single most useful thing you can tell us, since it determines which test is appropriate.
  • Drink fluids. Dehydration is a real risk in dengue and it also makes the blood draw harder.
  • Do not delay. NS1 works best in the first few days. Waiting until day six means missing the window for the most direct test.
  • Bring or mention any previous dengue history, since it affects how antibody results are read.
  • Book home collection if you are unwell. Dragging a feverish patient across Gujranwala helps nobody, and the collection is free.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best day of fever to get tested for dengue?

NS1 antigen is most accurate in the first five days of fever, while IgM and IgG antibodies are more reliable slightly later, which is exactly why we test all three together.

Do I need to fast before the dengue test?

No fasting is needed. You can eat normally before coming in or before our phlebotomist visits your home.

What does a positive NS1 result mean?

A positive NS1 means the dengue virus antigen was detected in your blood, which is strong evidence of an active infection, especially in the first few days of fever.

Should I also get a CBC done with the dengue test?

Yes, most doctors pair the dengue panel with a CBC to track your platelet count, since falling platelets are one of the key things monitored during dengue.

Can I get a dengue test at City Care Lab right now?

Not at the moment. Our dengue NS1, IgG and IgM testing is paused. If your doctor wants to track your platelet count, a CBC is available at all six branches, with free home collection.

What should I do if I think I have dengue?

See your doctor promptly, especially if a high fever comes with body aches, pain behind the eyes or bleeding gums. Drink plenty of fluids, and avoid painkillers like aspirin or ibuprofen unless your doctor says otherwise.
