About Widal Test (Typhoid)
The Widal test checks for antibodies against Salmonella typhi, the bacteria responsible for typhoid fever, and is still commonly ordered here in Punjab when a fever lasts more than a few days.
Because antibody levels take about a week to rise after infection begins, timing matters. Testing too early in the illness can give a falsely low reading, so your doctor may ask you to repeat it if the first result does not match your symptoms.
No fasting is needed, and results are available the same day, helping your doctor decide quickly whether antibiotic treatment for typhoid is warranted.
